Paris Taylor, Editor-in-ChiefParis is a senior creative writing major from Dallas, Texas. She’s often found reading a book in a nook. When she’s not doing that, she’s usually watching Bob’s Burgers or anime on Hulu. Not to mention she enjoys spending several hours playing video games. She enjoys making new friends, so if you see her around make sure to say hi. She hopes to become a published author or editor, whichever comes first but until then, she’ll just stick with enjoying a book with a cup of coffee until it happens.

Caroline Igo, Editor-in-ChiefCaroline is a senior creative writing major and english literature and film studies double minor. She is from Dubuque, Iowa, but has made Oxford her home. When she isn’t reading or writing for classes, Caroline enjoys working on her own creative nonfiction work centered on trauma and recovery. In addition to Happy Captive, Caroline writes as a communications intern for Miami’s College of Arts and Sciences. She also writes for Daryn Kagan, CNN alumna, storyteller, and author. Caroline also serves the Co-Recruitment Chair of Phi Sigma Pi, the National Honors Fraternity.

Sarah Holtz, Marketing DirectorSarah is a third-year creative writing major with a minor in philosophy. She grew up in Amman, Jordan where she first fell in love with writing. Her experiences both abroad and tucked away in a suburb of Dayton, Ohio, have shaped her narrative style greatly. She hopes to help other writers make their “barbaric yawps from the rooftops of the world” heard across campus as marketing director for Happy Captive Magazine. When she’s not writing, you can find her overwatering her plants, painting, or studying at King Library . After her time at Miami, Sarah wants to travel the world and write collections of poetry and creative non-fiction.

Megan Copenhaver, Fiction & Poetry EditorMegan is a junior creative writing major and general business minor from Cincinnati, Ohio. This is her second year on staff for Happy Captive Magazine and her first year on leadership as a Fiction and Poetry Editor. When she’s not working on developing her next work of fiction, she can be found reading from an extensive list of recommended books, hanging out with friends, hammocking or hiking in Miami’s Formal Gardens, or singing with the Miami University Choraliers. She wants to have a job in the publishing industry as an editor and to one day be a published author.

Madison Hoehn, Fiction & Poetry EditorMadison is a senior english literature major and creative writing minor from Highlands Ranch, Colorado. When she’s not writing an essay or editing for Happy Captive, she can be found swimming in the pool, as she is a part of Miami’s varsity swim team. She currently loves writing for her personal blog, reading anything involving sassy heroines, and burning her pumpkin candle when it rains. When she graduates, she hopes that she can continue pursuing an editorial career and finally publish her own novel. |
Riley Gabbard, Design and Layout ManagerRiley is a senior Software Engineering and Interactive Media Studies major. She is from the small town of Waynesville, Ohio, but doesn’t plan on sticking around after she graduates. Some of her hobbies include reading, photography, playing video games, and skating. When she’s not doing homework, she can be found hanging out with friends or jamming out to one of her many Spotify playlists.

Sophie Thompson, Business ManagerSophie is a senior creative writing major from Columbus, Ohio with minors in art history and rhetoric and writing. In addition to combing through submissions for Happy Captive, she writes articles for UP Magazine, tutors international students through the ACE writing center, and conducts spontaneous photoshoots with her friends. Sophie dreams of being a bestselling YA fantasy author and would sell her soul for magic powers. She loves Florence Welch, Lauren German, and scrolling through pictures of ball gowns on Pinterest. It is her life’s ambition to live in a fancy castle in England.
